Compassionate God, whose Spirit called Joseph to parenthhood, called him to release a life he knew and receive a life he could have never imagined - by your Spirit call and prepare us for our work of love, for our relationships, for the ways you created us to be...

 

Compassionate God, whose Spirit called Mary to parenthhood, called her to release a life she knew and receive a life she could have never imagined - by your Spirit call and prepare us for our work of love, for our relationships, for the ways you created us to be...

 

I wonder about Joseph, about his decision to "dismiss her quietly" as he was a "righteous man, unwilling to to expose her to publice disgrace." I wonder about Joseph because, as I encounter Joseph, I encounter so many who are faithful and considerate and yet find themselves in situations where there do not seem to be life-giving choices in situations that must be dwelt with. I mean dwelt with, not dealt with. Joseph did not choose obligation or duty, what we are so often encouraged to do by people who deal with issues causing others to have to dwell with their dealing.  Joseph chose love, chose to listen to angel who breathed a life-giving choice into a situation where there did not seem to be one.
